Simple Columnar Epithelium

Cells of simple columnar epithelium are longer than they are wide and they often have mucus producing goblet cells interspaced between them. Typically, the nuclei will all line up towards the base of the cell. Simple columnar epithelium is found in the small intestine, uterus, and uterine tubes. In the intestines, the simple columnar cells have microvilli which can be observed in the brush border on the apical surface. In the uterine tubes, simple columnar epithelium has cilia. These are hair like projections that move substances across the apical surface. Unlike the microvilli, you can clearly focus on the cilia
