This page has pyramidal neurons on it. The picture to the left is from the lab book. The picture on the right are student files from the fall of 2019.

A special type of multipolar neuron is called the pyramidal cell (right) and they are found in the gray matter of the cerebral cortex. Pyramidal cells play a role in memory and are also found in the main motor tract leaving the brain. On the slide, you should be able to see the 2 types of glial cells found in the brain. Astrocytes tend to be larger in size than oligodendrocytes, which form the myelin sheath around axons of the brain. If you look at astrocytes with the oil immersion lens, the astrocytes will also have more processes.

Scroll through the student pictures using the arrows. Try to identify the neurons and the glial cells. Your teacher may have you either draw or screen shot and label. Note, most of the pictures, you can right click (pc) or command click (mac) and choose view in a new tab. This will enlarge the picture.
