Lab 2 The Cell

In addition to the histology (instructions on canvas) we will look at cell models showing the organelles and the stages of mitosis. First, we will look at a rotating cell model. I really want you to spend time looking at the model and finding all of the organelles. Second, I want you to guess structures on static models. The models are numbered 1-8. Guess the structure. Then move the mouse over to see If you are right. Lastly I want you to guess the stage of mitosis.

Cell Rotating Model

Welcome to your first official rotating model. We will use this software to look at the models from different angles. The idea behind this is that you really get a feel for what the model looks like and where all the structures are. This is a really time consuming process to make these; therefore, I really want you to spend time looking at these models and finding the structures.

Watch my video below as I give you a tour of the cell model. Then try to find the organelles yourself. Your teacher may ask you to screen shot the model (control print screen pc or shift command 3 mac) and label them.

When viewing the model, answer this important question: What organelle is missing and therefore what can the cell not do?

Instructions

Mouse Over Models

Below are 2 cell models that have the organelles numbered. Go to both pages. Guess the structure. Your teacher may ask you to screen shot this with answers or to have write the structures in your lab book next to the cell picture.

Mitosis Models

Below are 2 sets of mitosis models. See if you can identify the stages of mitosis on both sets. Then click check answers. Your teacher may ask you to screen shot the correct answers for 1 or the other.
